This terraced house located in Ashton-on-Ribble sits on the Lancaster Canal. The site is defined by a distinct wedge shaped, with closely neighbouring homes on two sides.
Manchester architects Material Studio Architects (MSA) were commissioned to repair, refurbish and extend the existing property to make it suitable for modern living standards.
MSA have reconfigured this typical terrace house as a multi-generational home, allowing an extended family to live comfortably and yet autonomously on the site.
An existing two storey extension to the rear of the property was overbearing and in poor state of repair. This was re-clad in Corten - a robust metal that will protect against the elements. This was designed to break up the mass of white painted brickwork. The lower storey benefits from an extension, which extends the kitchen therefore creating more space for communal living.
This 4 bed house with 2 bathrooms, open plan kitchen and living room provides a timely adaptation to current housing stock.
