Leek Road Info

LEEK ROAD

This project is a private residence located in Stockton Brook, a small village located along Leek Road near Stoke-on-Trent.

Manchester architects Material Studio Architects (MSA) were appointed to design a two storey side extension which sits back from the existing main front facade by a brickwork course at both front and rear and away from the neighbouring site boundary.

The roof line takes reference from the main house in terms of form and finish. Sloping front to back with a gable end the roof profile respects the form of the existing property and the surrounding streetscape.

Vertical timber boarding with an expressed band every 500mm takes reference from the decorative timber detailing of the gables of the main roof, whilst still providing a contemporary break between old and new.

The rear extension aims to extend the existing kitchen out by 1.5 metres allowing an enhanced connection to the large rear garden. Glass sliding doors will increase the amount of natural light into the rear of the property with more expansive views onto the landscaped garden.

The last of three MSA collaborative projects, this planning submission was produced in partnership with interior designer Martin Dourish.
