LIME GROVE

The proposal for the enlarged footprint of this family house built in 1926 has been drastically altered. The intention was to remodel the downstairs living accommodation in order to bring it in line with the expectations of modern living. Bedrooms will remain upstairs with an additional double bedroom created by altering the bathroom and second bedroom. The extension will provide room for a new study, utility and WC on the ground floor along with an en-suite and dresser on the first floor.

The extension will be for residential purposes and will replace the existing inadequate one storey extension currently on the site. The extension will provide alternative access to the rear from the utility room and study looking out onto the main road. The house will be well lit due to a large expanse of glass. There will also be a smaller landscaped green roof to the new extension.

The extension will serve to clarify the distinction between what is existing and what is new. Although the scale of the proposed building will be two storeys in height, it proposes to be subservient to the existing building.

This one-off design was produced in partnership with architect Alex Melhuish.
