The Corner Room involved removing part of the rear wall to a rear corner room which originally hosted the dining room. We proposed extending the house by only 1.9m, and although modest in size, this extension had a large impact on the house and allowed us to create a large opening plan dining and kitchen area.
The project principally involved the building of a rear extension with the aim of reworking two awkward rooms, housing the dining room and poorly arranged kitchen. Externally, the extension uses red brick in keeping with the existing materials of the house. Although with the special addition of the large feature corner window bringing the garden into the house, making the garden visually feel like an extension of the room.
To complete this ground floor extension, we created a secret utility room hidden behind full height storage units. Therefore, creating a hidden functional room away from the calm, tidy, well-lit kitchen, and dining area. The addition of three roof lights fills the space with natural light, along with rear fully glazed access door. Other features include underfloor heating throughout and bespoke full height units, utilising very inch of wall space to create a clean contemporary kitchen.
We explored many variations to achieve the correct result, we challenged our clients and they in turn challenged us, this collaborative approach meant our clients felt confident sticking to our collective vision and to them we are truly grateful.
As always a special thanks to our clients, Sophie and Allan, Gorilla Construction for bringing our design to life, and of course thanks to our friend and photographer Paul Karalius.
